Morena folks, this morning I thought I’d take a look at our Prime Minister’s appearance on TVNZ’s Breakfast for the lightest of grillings. I had low expectations but you never know with Luxon; he’s such milquetoast that even the slightest heat can cause him to change colour dramatically.

Jenny-May Clarkson introduced the interview by saying there was to be a shake-up in WorkSafe NZ. I was pleasantly surprised; we have appalling statistics when it comes to workplace deaths and injuries, much worse than in countries we compare ourselves to, like the UK or Australia. A good area for the coalition to focus on, finally.

Things went downhill even before Luxon appeared, with Jenny-May leading by saying the government says WorkSafe is “too punitive and not helpful enough for businesses.”

I paused the broadcast. That didn’t sound right. Surely it isn’t WorkSafe’s role to be helpful to businesses, but to work with them to reduce deaths and injuries, including punitive measures when needed. I checked their website; this is from Chair Jennifer Kerr:
